Multinational oilfield services company Halliburton Co. announced late last year it aimed to hire 200 workers for product service lines and support functions in the booming Permian Basin in southeastern New Mexico. Now officials with the Houston-based oil giant say they are also hiring workers in the state's Four Corners region.

"We’ve recently hired for more than 70 positions and are currently hiring for [oil and gas] service operators, supervisors and mechanical/electrical technicians," said Halliburton spokeswoman Emily Mir about recent hirings in Farmington. "Halliburton has recently hired employees for work taking place in the northwest New Mexico, southern Colorado and southeast Utah area. Our employees are based in Farmington, New Mexico, but the nature of the operations we support require a mobile workforce."

Houston-based Halliburton reported $365 million in third-quarter net income attributable to the company, up from $6 million in the third quarter of 2016, according to Business First's sister company the Houston Business Journal.

Mir said Halliburton is adjusting its workforce in 2017 based on increased business demand in the Four Corners, where the Farmington Times Daily Times also reports hiring is up.

Officials with Hilcorp San Juan L.P., which closed earlier this year on an acquisition of 1.3 million net acres held by ConocoPhillips in the Four Corners region, said they are also seeing positive results from their investment in the region.
