Natural gas plant planned for Eddy County

rigEddy County commissioners are considering issuing industrial revenue bonds to a company looking to build a natural gas processing plant near the Lea County border.

Summit Midstream Permian LLC, a Texas-based company, said construction could be complete completed by June 2018.

Officials from Summit met with commissioners at Tuesday’s meeting, the first stage of the company’s attempt for bond approval through the county.

Chief Financial Officer Matt Harrison said the project is part of an agreement with oil and gas giant Exxon Mobil to build the processing plant.

The project also marks Summit’s expansion into the Delaware Basin.

While an exact location was not available at Tuesday’s meeting, company officials said it will be about two miles into Eddy County from the border with Lea, just off the U.S. Highway 62/180.

“This is one of more investments to come,” Harrison said. “We are very committed to getting our customers to market.”
